It’s the beginning of yet another month, which means it’s time for another posting of the IWSG. If you haven’t clicked on the image and traveled to the variety of blogs that participate in this hop, do it. Treat yourself to a little pre-holiday giggle or cry, depending on your needs.
Now on to my own post for this month.
I know that many of my fellow are writers are deep in the throes of NaNo at the moment. I’m doing a modified Nano with my new project. I predict my first draft will actually take three to four months, rather than one. But, I feel a bit a part of the club at the moment; it’s a coffee-driven, anxiety-riddled club for sure, but it has more than its share of talent and benefits. Most notably, the dedication to put down words every day. That’s what attracted me to my own modified version.
What about you? Are any of you participating in either the traditional NaNo or your own version?

Next up, weekly news.
This first one seems more like a scene from When Sharks Attack. Guess curiosity really is bad for kitties.

I’d love to snorkel down and see this, and it helps preserve the reef – bonus!
Geologic speed bumps in an earthquake zone. Cool!

That’s it for me for another week. For those of you trapped inside for the duration of NaNo, get a refill on your coffee. For those of you still able to go outside and take in the dwindling hours of daylight, send chocolate and Starbucks. Writing is hard work. 🙂
I learned my lesson with NaNo and changed it to a motivation to write daily, rather than reach a specific word count. With a couple deadlines for short stories fast approaching, and a serial story in the works (with a deadline also creeping up on me), I’m counting my successes in actually getting projects done. That counts for NaNo, right?
Unleashing the Dreamworld
Completed work counts for everything. Good luck!
I wanted to do my own version, but I became sidetracked with promo stuff for a new release. I’ll modify my goals, giving myself extra time to finish two drafts.
I’m all about modified versions. For me, the point is to commit to writing, not a specific timeline. Good luck with your two drafts. 🙂
I signed up, but mostly, I signed up so I’d have something to procrastinate against. It’s strange, but my rebellious streak is strong. If I have something I’m “supposed” to be doing, then I get other things done. Like I wrote a pitch for a book I’d like to start querying, and I wrote a synopsis, and I wrote a short story (I don’t even know who I am!), but my NaNo novel? yeah, 500 words in six days is totally a doable pace, right?
I’m familiar with a rebellious streak. Isn’t it strange how it comes out even against our own goals? You’d think our stubbornness would be reserved for things others want us to do. Weird. Good luck with whatever projects you end up completing this month. 🙂
“it’s a coffee-driven, anxiety-riddled club” Hahaha! That fish was so fast I couldn’t even see what happened! :O Good luck on your extended NaNo, Kim!
Thanks, Lex! I should have something for you to read by early spring. So far, so good.
The two times I participated, it took me almost two months to finish, but that’s all right!
Finishing is finishing. As long as it happens, I don’t think it truly matters whether it’s one month or ten.
If the modified version gets you to write, then by all means do it.
Agreed. Good luck with whatever projects you’re tackling in November. 🙂
I’m not doing any version o it. I’m revising and I’m half way through. I might be tempted again next year! Good luck with your draft.
Thank you! Good luck with your revisions.
All that matters is that you are pleased with whatever word count you have produced. I’m hoping to finish one or two short story starts this month. I’m counting blog posts/comments in my word count 🙂
I hope I am pleased. Twenty-five more days. 🙂 Good luck with your shorts.
Good luck to all the Nano-ers! It is a crazy time, but you feel such a sense of accomplishment when you finish. (Even if you don’t, you have major progress on a novel anyway!)
I’m hoping to revel in a little bit of that sense for sure. We’ll see how it goes. Thanks for commenting!
