Welcome to the monthly post for The Insecure Writer’s Support Group (IWSG). We’re a group of writers who linger too near our keyboards all of the time but especially the first Wednesday of the month. Join us. My awesome co-hosts for the May 6 posting of the IWSG are Jenni Enzor, Jemima Pett, Jamie of Uniquely Maladjusted but Fun!
The optional question this month is: What was the most inspiring feedback you received from readers, including agents, editors, and beta readers?
The absolute best feedback I’ve ever received was from a beta read of my current book. Handwritten in the pages of my climax was the word BITCH (she meant me), and a page or two later when the outcome of the scene was clear, the same reader had a sad face and the word heartbroken scrawled in large text. The scene had 100% done it’s job. Now, time for some news.
Chonkers is my news tidbit this month. I heart Chonkers.
In science news, quantum position verification is destined for a high-tech facility near you. I continue to be amazed by quantum mechanics and now it shows that you can know if “the call is coming from inside the house.” Did I just date myself?

I leave you with a song. Enjoy and I’ll see you next month.

What an unexpected reader feedback! And perfect for the story she/he read! You made me smile . . . thank you for co-hosting this wonderful online writing community that gives back to much to all of us.
Yeah, I smiled as well. Thanks for dropping by!
Thanks for co-hosting. I’m glad that the feedback was right on.
It was perfect. Thanks for dropping by!
Hi, Kim! Thanks for co-hosting this month! I enjoyed each of your links. Loved Chonkers! Loved your feedback!
Shockers is the best! Thanks for stopping by.
Thanks for co-hosting this month. I love the feedback you received-so visceral.
Visceral is the perfect description, and it’s why I loved it so much. No one can have a visceral reaction unless they’re engaged in the scene. Engaged readers are gold.
Well, Kim, you got a reaction to your writing. This is what is important. This means the reader was engaged with your story. Bravo! Thanks for cohosting this month at IWSG!
Yeah, the reader is actually a friend, and she meant it as an engaged reader. It was perfect for the moment.
Sorry ! Anonymous on seals and sealions pressed send too soon.
No worries. I’ve done that too.
Great reads – both your beta reader, and the amazing sealion.
Not terrific sealions, but wild Atlantic greys and the much rarer common seals are why we head for the seal nurseries of Scotland’s east coast every November.
Air breathing mammals,. as the wildlife posters explain, which is why they come onto the beaches to give birth.
Getting to see the seal nurseries every year sounds amazing. Thanks for dropping by!
That is one big sea lion! I miss seeing them.
I love Chonkers!
Whoa! You did well not taking offence at that! I remember when one of my beta readers messaged me to say she was really annoyed that I had included a much younger character with the older kids, because the younger one ‘was just nothing but trouble, and she shouldn’t even be in the group!’ She was so incensed over this character, and that gave me great joy because I had gained such an intense reaction 🙂
Yeah, intense reactions show investment. What writer doesn’t want readers invested in the outcomes of their story.
Thanks for co-hosting today! And LOL, her cursing at you was the best feedback she could give. Straight to the point.
Yeah, the curse was perfect. Thanks for dropping by.
Chonkers is adorable! And it sounds like your beta reader was very engaged with your characters.
Yeah, she was very engaged. It made my writer heart happy.
Thank you for the Chonkers. We all need more of that in our life. And thanks for co-hosting today! Happy IWSG day.
Thanks for dropping by!
Those are some wild comments! I need to go back to those from my third book as they were encouraging and hilarious.
Thanks for co-hosting!
I laughed out loud when I read her comments. It may have even been a cackle.
Love the sea lion clip. So life-affirming in the sea of negative news today. Thanks for sharing.
Chonkers made me smile. Thanks for stopping by.
