September 7 question – What genre would be the worst one for you to tackle and why?

That’s an easy one. I’m not a romance writer. Could I tackle small romance elements that are secondary? Yes. But in terms of it being the focus of the story, I’m not your girl. It’s just not of interest to me. I get all squeamish if the book I’m reading begins to focus on a romantic relationship for too long, and I honestly will skip pages if I can. It’s just not my jam. So, I leave it to the talented writers out that who love romance and who write it passionately. That’s what the readers deserve. Now that I’ve been serious for several consecutive minutes, it’s time for some fun. Or, more precisely, some fun news.

This first story needs only two words to express what I felt when I saw it: um … what?

Happy August! We’re nearing summer’s end. It’s not fall yet, but we’re getting closer. I may be part of the group cheering fall’s beginning. But I’m getting ahead of myself. Today is about the Insecure Writer’s Support Group posting, and news–I can’t forget the news.

Before we get to far, I want to acknowledge our awesome co-hosts for this month’s posting Tara Tyler, Lisa Buie Collard, Loni Townsend, and Lee Lowery!

The optional question is: When you set out to write a story, do you try to be more original or do you try to give readers what they want?

For me it’s not either or. It’s all about the timing. The idea has to come first, but during revision, managing the story becomes very important. If I do my job correctly, both end up addressed throughout the numerous drafts it takes to finish.

In science news, we’re truly living in a brave new world. Artificial intelligence (AI) has discovered alternative physics. If we ever encounter another species, will they have discovered the same physical laws we did, or will they have discovered different ones? The AI discovery points to the possibility that we have found just one physical path. Science is so cool!

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful Wednesday. I did. This morning I enjoyed an early morning run and caught a great pic of the sun rising. Sunrises and sets are great starts to any day, kind of like silly news stories. 😉

My first story today involves an emu. I don’t know if you caught the viral videos of the other emu going around, but mischief is apparently part and parcel. The one in my story dodges cop cars.

July’s optional question is—If you could live in any book world, which one would you choose?

This is so tough because I love so many book worlds. But if I have to choose one today, it would be the science fantasy/horror world conceived by Seanan McGuire in Middlegame. It wouldn’t be easy to step into its pages, but getting to be a firsthand observer to the world-changing alchemy that rewrites time itself would be amazing. So amazing I wouldn’t even miss the news, but alas …😉
