Weekly News

Welcome back! Wednesday is here and so is my news buffet. A veritable smorgasbord of tasty morsels to tease the palette and spark neural firings. You’re welcome. 😉

Up first, the most amazing pictures I’ve ever seen. Now I want to go see the northern lights. Bad.

Even more amazing pictures. Water passing as lava. Very cool!

And just to round out an evening of pictures, underwater photos. A chance for a different perspective.

That’ll do it for another hump day. I hope the view from where you sit is nearly as stunning as some of the images I shared tonight.

Welcome back one and all! Do I sound like a carnival barker? I feel like one–that or a magician in front of a crowd of people. Such Wednesday fun. I can seriously entertain myself with next to nothing, huh? Well… the benefits of an imagination. Ta da. *giggle*

Time to straighten up. It’s news time. You can’t see my serious face, but I swear it’s there.

Up first, a very serious story. Well, weighty at the very least.;)

This is a new type of donation request. Cool–maybe I should say cold–but new.

Up next, science scores with an absolutely amazing use of a 3D printer.

That’s a wrap on another Wednesday of news. I hope you end your week with as much laughter as seriousness.

Weekly News

Welcome back! I’m a tired teacher/writer this evening. One who survived yet another round of conferences. My fatigue means I won’t waste time yammering on.

Up first a criminal that figured he might as well try. If the police are already questioning you, you might as well make it worth your time at the police station.

http://www.sfgate.com/news/crime/article/Cops-Man-stole-badges-while-held-in-office-for-6814915.php

The ice is melting in my neck of the woods with very warm temperatures, but don’t tell these folks. Amazing!

Interesting new information about our evolution.

http://www.livescience.com/53676-human-gorilla-lineages-split-later.html

That’ll do it for me. I can barely see the words that my fingers are forming. I’ll have to read through them tomorrow to see if they actually make any sense. 😉

IWSG and Weekly News

InsecureWritersSupportGroup2

Once again it’s time for The Insecure Writer’s Support Group. Tears and nervousness give way to commiseration and blog hopping. Join us by clicking on the picture. The awesome co-hosts for this month’s posting of the IWSG are: Allison Gammons,Tamara Narayan, Eva E. Solar, Rachel Pattison, and Ann V. Friend!

My topic for this month’s sharing relates back to editing. I hired a freelance editor to give me feedback on my first manuscript, and I just received her great comments. But therein lies the nervousness. I see where so many of her suggestions will improve the book, and have already begun making the changes, and it’s better. But I’ve just begun. It’s going to be two to three months of tearing apart scenes, reconfiguring one of the main character’s interactions with a couple of other characters, and pumping up the tension throughout. In other words, a lot of work.

Deep breath.

It’s worth it, and I can see the benefit. I really want this story to find its audience. But… I’m nervous.

What if it’s still not good enough when I’m done?

**************************************

Time to end the hand wringing and grab a bite of news.

This first story is even more of a wow than the truck I posted about last week. I cannot even imagine driving under that tower of crates. How does a driver’s test even come close to preparing you for that kind of task?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/tricycle-china-shanghai-crates_us_56addc0ae4b00b033aaf6a88?utm_hp_ref=weird-news

Someone has been working out. Good for him.

Science rounds out this little news buffet. In a weird crossover between the literary world and the scientific one, leeches named for famed author Amy Tan. I really don’t know whether she finds it flattering or not, but I, personally, would find it quite odd. Odd but cool. And the cool is in a my-work-inspired-a-new-find way. Hmm…

http://www.livescience.com/53552-leech-named-for-author-amy-tan.html

That’s it for the first Wednesday (posted on Tuesday) in February. Hope you have a fabulous week. See you in seven.

Weekly News

Another week has come and gone, and I am visible from behind my mountainous to-do piles. Hi. I’m waving at you all. The piles are no longer wavering and threatening to topple over. So, I’d definitely say things are looking up.

With a grin on my face and a coffee IV still fueling my thoughts, I dared take the time to patrol the vast amounts of news available for perusal this week. Care for a sampling?

I want to know this feeling. Me. Please. I volunteer.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/china-cash-money_us_56a290d8e4b0404eb8f19745?utm_hp_ref=weird-news

And now for a musical sampling. I’m beginning some revisions of my first manuscript, and was seeking some pump-up music. Eminem served it up nicely.

https://www.youtube.com/embed/_Yhyp-_hX2s“>

Now for some science. Three billion years of plate tectonics. Mountains, volcanoes, earthquakes and everything else they set into motion. Imagine how many different faces the earth has presented throughout all of that geologic rearranging. So cool.

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/01/160121150103.htm

That’s a wrap for yet another news tasting. I hope you’ve had your fill. Time to push away from the table. Goodnight. Have a fantastic week.

Weekly News

Hello all! The middle of the week has rocketed back into existence and is just as quickly disappearing from underneath me. All the while disturbing the unstable piles of stuff I’m trying to get done. Hmph…

I guess if time has to rocket toward anything, the weekend is a good endpoint. Not the end you say? Shh… Let me pretend.

This first story shows me that if that tiny truck can make it, so can I. I’m hearing: I think I can… I think I can…

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/little-truck-vs-giant-dune_us_569ef9d0e4b0cd99679be17c?utm_hp_ref=weird-news

Um… okay. Too much free time. Maybe one of them can help me with my piles.

We might have another planet. I could say something witty or sarcastic regarding our old ninth planet–poor, Pluto– but my first sentence stands on its own. A new planet! I heart science.

http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-35365323

That’ll do it for buried lil old me. Think of me if you’re doing something fun. I’ll be shoveling through my to-do list the next couple of weeks.

Fingers and toes crossed that this is the beginning of the end for ebola. Too many lives lost. Too much pain.

That’s all folks. See you in seven.

It’s that time once again. Do you feel the collective twitching? The increased clicks of coffee pots sliding back in for more brewing, clattering coffee cups or some other type of cup smacking against desktops, and the endless crinkle of wrappers from chocolate-based treats. I do. I may even be contributing to the cacophony… Maybe. 😉

Thank you to our helpful co-hosts this month: L.G. Keltner, Denise Covey, Sheri Larsen, J.Q. Rose, Chemist Ken and Michelle Wallace.

Click on the picture above if you wish to visit the array of blogs that function due to caffeine, chocolate, and other insecurity-settling crutches that writers cling to desperately. An extra bonus this month–the names of the authors selected for the anthology. You know you want to know.

In the spirit of celebratory news and in keeping with great new things in a great new year, a plug for an author friend of mine that released her newest novel on the 4th:

CLOAKED by T.F. Walsh Is Now Out

3D+Cloaked

Cloaked Blurb:

Raised by an overly protective wulfkin pack, Daciana leaps at the chance to venture into the human world for her one-year independence ritual. But after someone steals the endangered bear cubs she’s been assigned to protect, she must locate them or lose her job and return home in disgrace. The sexy inspector on the case isn’t making this any easier. He knows nothing of her kind, and wulfkin rules forbid relationships with humans.

Newly divorced Inspector Connell Lonescu trusts no one but himself. He’s convinced relationships are a waste of time and thinks burying himself in work will ease the pain. Yet he’s attracted to the gorgeous and mysterious Daciana, even if there’s something slightly odd about her. Can Connell learn to trust the sexy but secretive woman?

Cloaked is the prequel to Cloaked in Fur, book 1 in The Wulfkin Legacy Series. Find out how Daciana and Connell fell in love and set in motion the paramount events that forever change their lives and those around them.

Happy New Year’s Eve Eve! 2015 is on the way out, and a brand new year is rushing toward us. Will it be a better year? A more exciting year? Who knows. That in and of itself can be exciting. New and different, you know?

To wrap up 2015, here’s a look at the dark side of the internet. News, but not really. Vast access to information can be pretty unreliable sometimes.

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-35051618?ocid=socialflow_facebook&ns_mchannel=social&ns_campaign=bbcnews&ns_source=facebook

And in a story from a reliable source and freaking cool to boot, glow-in-the-dark sharks.

Science rocks it for the win! 2015 showed discoveries that reach from the universe to epigenomes.
